Attempting to put a brass screen in a glass bong bowl leads to poor results. The screen won't stay put and keeps popping out.

How to Keep Screens in Bong Bowls

Bongs and waterpipes are some of the best devices for smoking your favorite herb. As the smoke passes through the water heavy impurities are filtered out and the smoke is cooled, giving a cleaner, cooler hit. A standard bong comes with a bong bowl containing an open hole which allows all the burnt ash and debris to flow into the water when the smoke is aspirated. This adds biomaterial to the water and reduces the water’s ability to filter the smoke. Not only does this make your lungs dirtier, but it also turns a beautiful bong into a disgusting black mess.

If you’re like us, you want to keep your bong and lungs as clean as possible, so you look for alternatives to the murky bong water. An ash-catcher or a carbon filter can be installed in between the bowl and the downstem to collect the ash and debris released through the bong bowl. Both additions increase the bong’s complexity and make the cleaning process more difficult.

Is there a simpler way to keep your bong water cleaner over multiple sessions? Yes! Installing a screen into the bong bowl will collect the ash and prevent it from being pulled into the bong. Unfortunately, most commercial bowls cannot easily hold a screen.

The tapered or rounded profile of glass bowls do not match well with a flat circular screen. Attempting to insert a screen in a clean glass bowl is near impossible, it can be crushed down and somewhat formed to the bowl, but there is nothing to hold it down, so it just pops out. If the bowl is used a couple of times and kind of gunky, then when the screen is pushed into the bowl, the gunk acts like a weak glue and can hold the screen in place. This application is not robust for multiple uses, it requires that the bowl already be dirty, and it gets resin all over your fingers.

The Invincibowl was made to address these issues, this ash filtering bong bowl houses an integrated screen. The Invincibowl is manufactured with a flat bottom and retaining sleeve to securely hold a screen and filter out the ash. Bowl after bowl, 99% of the combusted particulates are blocked, leaving only a slight yellow tinge to the bong water as it extracts impurities from the smoke.

To make the Invincibowl even better, we use a proprietary stamped mesh made of high-temperature stainless steel. When compared to typical cheap woven screens, the cross-sectional area of our bong bowl screens promotes low residue build-up, allowing for high air flow after continued usage. Additionally, the stainless-steel material has such high thermal coefficient that the material never outgasses and will add no flavors or aromas to the smoking experience!

In summary, the ways in which you can use a bong are

  1. Use a stock bong with cheap glass bowl - gets bong water and lungs coated with ash and gunky particles.
  2. Replace your bong water after each use - puts stinky, dirty bong water down your sink and leaves ash and unburnt herb to collect in the waterpipe while taking the first hit.
  3. Add a separate ash-catcher or carbon filter - additional expense, with additional cleaning processes (ash-catchers can be especially hard to clean).
  4. Mash a screen into a glass bowl - nearly impossible, woefully unrepeatable, and very messy.
  5. Upgrade to an Invincibowl - block ash at the source, cleans simply just like regular bong gear.

Since we're on the topic of cleaning bong gear; typically, the parts must be soaked in isopropyl then cleaned manually with a pipe cleaner or swab. With the addition of an Ultrasonic Cleaner the entire process is simplified, just rinse off the parts after sonication!
